The following are my top five holiday movies. For some reason I’m really in the Christmas spirit this year, and I haven’t been in some time. Perhaps it’s my lovely little nephew, or maybe it’s all the blogging, but I’m feeling really Christmasy. I’ve been itching to start enjoying my annual holiday movies and wanted to share my top five Christmas movies with you all. At the end of the post, one lucky winner will win their choice of DVD from my top five.
Five: It Nearly Wasn’t Christmas
I don’t know that they ever released this one on DVD, but it used to come on ABC I think, and I loved it as a kid. It’s about a little girl who’s on a mission to find her father, and prove to Santa Claus that people do still care about each other. With the help of a bumbling elf, Jennifer Baxter shows others the meaning of the holidays in hopes that Santa will not cancel Christmas. I haven’t seen this one in years, but I still remember it and still love it.
How awesome was this movie! I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve seen this movie. The funny thing is, like a true book nerd, I remember actually reading this book in about the third grade. I was in class reading and began laughing hysterically because of the shenanigans of the robbers. Needless to say I was supposed to be paying attention, and was a little embarrassed to have the class staring at me because of my outburst. This movie still remains one of my faves and I still watch it when it comes on. I even liked the second one…lost in New York.
Three: This Christmas
This Christmas movie is relatively new as it was released in 2007 I believe, but I just love the atmosphere of it. The family reminds me so much of my own and I can relate to the sibling love and rivalry all throughout this movie. It has some good music and fine men. With a cute story and a strong feeling of love and family, This Christmas makes the list of favorite holiday movies.
Two: Last Holiday
Queen Latifah rules in this movie. It’s so fun and fresh, and I love the feeling I get when I’m watching. When Georgia Byrd is told that she’s dying and only has three weeks to live, she cashes in all her savings to do what she’s always dreamed. She travels across seas to enjoy a posh lifestyle in an upscale hotel, and enjoy the fine cuisine of her favorite chef. While there, Georgia affects everything and everyone around her, and makes people consider all that is truly important to them and in life. This is such a wonderful movie that I can’t get enough of it. I’ll be popping it into the DVD player soon.
One: A Christmas Story
Every year I look forward to watching the 24 hour marathon of this movie with my sister. This is such a classic holiday movie with some of the most memorable movie moments! The Fra-Gee-Lay leg lamp, the tongue on the poll, and the most epic of epic beat downs and cuss-outs! And poor Ralphie being denied his red rider bebe gun at every turn. There is nothing not to love about this movie.
