Why I Love Wednesdays is a weekly meme created and hosted by Alexis of Reflections of a Bookaholic. Each week she posts a Why I Love Topic that she answers. If you would like to participate head on over to her site for the topic and the image. This week’s topic:

Books to Movie:

Okay the ULTIMATE book to movie for me was The Color Purple.  Although I’ll admit to never finishing the book (sorry I just couldn’t get into it or understand the way it was written), I have to say I LOVE the movie.  It is a CLASSIC, and I usually end up watching it when it comes on TV.  Yes it’s long and full of tragedy.  But its also dynamic, thoughtful, and triumphant!  Whoopi did a great job as Celie and I loved Oprah as Sophia.  This move is full of classic scenes.  I particularly love the part when Sug Avery hears the church people singing in the distance, picks up the song and makes her way to the church with a crowd of folks behind her.  I get chills every time I watch that scene…EVERY TIME! I also think it’s cool that this girl I went to college with was in the movie as a child. She was in the church scene I just spoke of. I couldn’t believe it, but then thought it’s feasible since they filmed in NC. Also, she looked the same, just bigger.

I also love all the Harry Potter films.  I actually watched the majority of them before I ever picked up the books.  And while the books are soooooo much better…I still love the movies and notice things in them now that I didn’t before I read the books.  Like Sir Cadogan, I think that’s his name.  Did he not crack you guys up in the books?  And now I notice him in the movie acting just as nutty and spoiling for a fight.  And cute little Dobby.  I really wish they hadn’t given a lot of his part to Neville, he was brilliant.  The books were just AMAZING, but the movies are really great too.

Honorable Mentions: New Moon and Eclipse…but only because Jacob Black is so HOT.  I could really look at him all day…otherwise…ummm, yeah.

So what books to movies do you love?

@ RRR, I’m still up in the air about how I feel about Waiting To Exhale, the book and the movie. I enjoyed the book way more, but as an adult now, I fnd myself wondering what all the hoopla was about.

I have to agree! The Color Purple is a film I could watch over and over again, but I have to admit I have never read the book, nor have I read the HP books, but I love the movies.

I so agree with you. My favorite is the Color Purple too. I think I know the entire movie by heart. Some days, all I do is quote scenes from the Color Purple on facebook all day. You’d be surprised how many people reply with their favorite quotes, it’s interesting. I think we play out the entire movie on Facebook, it’s hilarious. Best movie in my opinion ever. My favorite movie after the Color Purple would be The Imitation of Life. I cried hard on that one.

  5. Amen to that honorable mention! *high five*

I’m having a hard time thinking of my allll time fav.

  6. Jade Jade says:

@ Missie, you have to read the HP books, they are REALLY good!

@ Lena, mea and my friends do that too! It’s amazing how one film can bring so many different people together who can quote it word for word!

@ Juju, High five back atcha!

  7. Lah says:

The Color purple is a classic for sure. I didn’t read the book though! And I read the books before the movies so I’m not the biggest fans of them. I really did enjoy the first half of number 7 though! I think it was probably the best since the 2nd movie IMO.

  8. Jade Jade says:

@ Lah, I think DH1 is my fave so far too. Visually, they got everything on point. It was almost EXACTLY how I imagined them in my head. Godric’s Hollow, Malfoy’s house…they really did a good job with DH1.

  9. Sooo… I’ve never read or watched The Color Purple. I’ve seen parts of it and it just makes me cringe. To be fair, I have a hard time with many works that depict difficult issues for blacks. I know I need to accept it and get over it, but…I’m a punk. I wanted to see it on stage though. I’d still be willing to do that.

Oh and Harry Potter is awesome 🙂

@ Alexis, I used to be that way too but had to get over it. Especially considering the things I was assigned in school. And eventually I learned to take these types of films and learn from them. They’re chock full of history, but they are also enlightening and encouraging.
