The Baby-Sitters Club by Ann M. Martin

It all began with a great idea … and the inspiring original story of the Baby-sitters Club is back! Kristy Thomas’s brilliant business plan gets off to a great start with the help of Claudia Kishi (vice-president), Mary Anne Spier (secretary), and Stacey McGill (treasurer).

I’m sure I’m not the only one who loved this series as a kid.  I think they probably were a part of the young girl’s rite of passage.  When I started reading this series I felt as if a whole new world had opened up for me.  They even inspired me to go into business for myself at a young age.  Yup, I became the neighborhood baby-sitter.  I occasional did some pet-sitting as well.  These girls were entertaining and a great inspiration.  I hope to have a niece or daughter one day who I can share these books with.

Do you remember The Baby-Sitters Club?  Who was your favorite character?

  1. I remember this series. I used to have shelves of these books, and I still have a handful of used ones and the special edition New York one.

I don’t think I had a favorite character in particular but I always thought it would be cool to be like Claudia.

  2. Sadly I’ve never heard of this before, but I love seeing old books around! I know how I feel with my oldies I remember. And that’s really cool it had you starting your own baby sitting company!

Oh I was sure The Baby-Sitters Club had made it around everywhere. I’d love to know some of your old books you have or remember reading.

MEMORIES- I still have six copies on my shelf. I’ve even laminated them.

  4. I never read these books. I remember so many kids talking about them, but for some reason they never appealed to me.

I was like that at first. But when I finally read one I was hooked. Much like I was with the HP series. Refused to read it for so long and finally gave in. Then ended up falling in book love.

  5. I’m 35 and don’t have the most fab memory so I don’t remember my favorite character. BUT I do remember loving this series when I was young.

  6. Missie says:

OMG! Yes!!! I totally wanted to be a babysitter because of this book. Unfortunately, I never actually babysitted anyone besides my sister, but I love how these books instantly remind me of my teeny bopper self.

I loved the Baby-Sitters Club. I still do as it reminds me of my childhood. Reading a book is like going back to an old friend. I was never consistent with my favorite member. Some days it was Mallory. Other days it was Mary-Anne. Then, it was Jessie. Sometimes Claudia. I know that I liked Mallory and Mary-Anne because I felt I was the most like them.

OMG that is so true and I love that analogy. My favorite character kind of floated around too, but I always leaned towards Claudia, and Jessi when she finally showed up in the series.

  9. PS I added your button to my blog 🙂 Should have done it ages ago!

  10. I loved the Babysitter’s Club growing up!! My favorite was Boy Crazy Stacy because they go to the same Jersey shore town we went for vacation!

  11. Aww, BSC! Not only did I read these books, but I even read some of the ones about Kristy’s little sister, Karen. I think I read almost every BSC book there was. My favorite character was either Mary Anne or Dawn. 🙂

I read a few of the little sister books as well. I don’t think that I was ever to complete the whole series though I read quite a lot of them.

I remember The Baby Sitter’s Club, it was a great series. I don’t remember any of the character’s name. I do remember the movie made after it, and I still like watching it.

  13. I LOVED the Babysitter’s Club and still view them as a wonderful series that I would love to own. My mom signed me up for some kind of subscription and I would get a few books in the mail each month. I’m not sure if I had a favorite exactly. I remember being excited when Jessi came on the scene. I think I liked Dawn the best. I’m not quite sure. Dawn and Stacey seemed so grown up and cool.

I was excited for Jessi’s arrival as well. It was nice to see a character who looked like me. I too want to own the entire series one day. When I can get me a house with my own personal library I think I’ll try to get them all.
