Back In The Day I Used to Love: Amelia Bedelia

Amelia Bedelia

Amelia2I used to love the Amelia Bedelia books.  There were so many it was hard to choose and Amelia used to have some of the best stories written about her.  I don’t even remember how I started reading Amelia Bedelia, but I’m certain I discovered her some time in Elementary School.

I loved how cooky and wacky she was, and never tired of reading about her misadventures.  I don’t know why but the Amelia Bedelia Plays Ball story is the one that still sticks out in my mind most.  This is another series I can’t wait to share with my nephew and future kids.

Who else out there used to read Amelia Bedelia as a child? Do you read them to your kids now?

OMG I loved her too lol I love how crazy she was and how she mistook everything. Amelia Bedelia was truly one of my favorites.

Amelia Bedelia is make of awesome! I seriously loved her stories. So funny. I still remember one in which she planted light bulbs in the back yard because she was told to plant the bulbs. LOL

    Good times, good times.

P.S. Dont forget about the Berenstain bears. I loved them too. 🙂

  3. I used to read these when I was older actually. I volunteered at an elementary school and had to read to the younger kids. They loved Amelia Bedlia and I loved her as well. I was kind of old though 🙂

@ Nikki, Amelia was crazy as hell. She always got things mixed but somehow it was always endearing.

@ Missie, I loved her stories too. Everything she did was a hoot and planting lightbulbs sounds just like her. And The Berenstein Bears will most likely be making a future Back In The Day Post.

@ Alexis, I’m glad you got to expreience Amelia even though you were older. I think she’s charming and engaging at any age.

  5. I loved me some Amelia B. she was the first person I thought about for the childhood book friend but she was not during my years. I read her to my class all the time and acted out the part of Amelia and the children would laugh til they coughed. we had a ball reading about her.

I loved Amelia Bedelia. The make great books for the brand new reader to learn vocabulary. I remember teaching my boys to read with those books.

I also loved Flicka, Ricka and Dicka; Clifford and those dogs in Go Dog Go!

@ RRR, I’m sure it would have been fine to choose her. I loved getting to hear an Amelia tory in class, so I’m sure your kids had a ball.

@ Belle, I wasn’t aware they made vocab books from Amelia. I’ll have to check that out. And yes Clifford, was one of my faves as well.

  8. Confession: I’m not sure I’ve ever tried her books.

@ JuJu, not surprised. There really was a whole lt to choose from as a child. Not everybody would have gotten around to Amelia.
