Why I Love Wednesdays is a weekly meme created and hosted by Alexis of Reflections of a Bookaholic. Each week she posts a Why I Love Topic that she answers. If you would like to participate head on over to her site for the topic and the image. This week’s topic:

Underrated Authors:

My pick for underrated author would have to be Karen E. Quinones-Miller. I’ve read the majority of her books and loved them all. While I wanted more of a resolution to Passin‘, I had absolutely no qualms with all of the other books and thoroughly enjoyed each of them. Her work includes:

I’m Telling
Ida B. (retitled to Uptown Dreams)
Harlem Godfather: The Rap on My Husband, Ellsworth “Bumpy” Johnson
Satin Doll
Satin Nights
Using What You Got

I’ve read them all except Harlem Godfather and they were all great stories. But my abosolute favorites would have to be:

So if you plan on giving her books a go, I’d start with any one of these.

Honorable Mentions:

Marcus Major, and Shaneska Jackson. I actually haven’t seen or read anything new from these two in a long time. But I loved and read their existing work over and over again. I hope they both decide to come back to the writing scene soon.

oooh, I love this week’s topic. I love learning about new to me authors I’m missing out on.

Thanks for the spotlight on Ms. Miller and for the HM. I will have to check them out.

Missie, I like learning about new authors as well. In fact Im about to start a book by Georgette Heyer. An author I hadn’t heard of before I ran across something about her work on a book blog.

I haven’t read any of Karen’s books. I have been meaning to for so long. I loved Sheneska Jackson’s novels. My favorite of hers is Lil Mama Rules. I have all her books and enjoyed them all with the exception of Caught Up in the Rapture, it was just aight.

    • Jade Jade says:

Lena, you must pick up her books and give them a try. I think they are probably right up your alley. And I too loved Shaneska’s books. I loved them all though. I do believe Lil Mama’s Rules was the first I ever read, but I had to read the rest once I read that one. And I read them more than once.

  7. Oh yes, I love Karen Q. books. I really liked Satin Doll and I can’t think of this other novel she wrote that is one of my favorites too.
I must read the novel about the Godfather. That novel is a true story.

  8. Hmmmm…why does your currently reading section say ‘Not Reading’?
