 Movie: Mannequin

My Dad introduced me and my siblings to this movie when we were young.  I don’t know how he came upon it, but I thank him for sharing this with us.  This was such a fun and cute movie and we would watch it over and over again.

Jonathan, trying to find his niche gets fired from a series of jobs.  But he has an artistic nature.  He was happy working at a job where he created mannequins, but was subsequently fired from there too.  One day he sees the mannequin he created in a window display of a flailing department store.  After he saves the owner’s life, She gives him a job doing window displays.  During his night shift, the mannequin he created comes to life, and all sorts of fun, adventure, mishaps, and romance ensue.

This is the first, and only other movie, that I ever saw Kim Catrell in.  And Andrew McCarthy was cute and hilarious.

Estelle Getty played the matronly older boss, and Hollywood (snaps fingers) was a flamboyant hoot!  I still have a copy of this movie and pull it out from time to time.

Anybody else familiar with this movie?

I am totally going to date myself but I was 12 when this came out and the theme song was all over the radio… trying to remember the name Starship something…Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now. This was just one of those cutesie feel good 80’s movies. another one of my favs was Chances Are. Make sure you check that one out, it is so sweet.

I totally remember this movie! I could remember what year it came out, so I looked it up in the IMDb. I’m amazed at how young I was when I first saw it. I was 9! I know I just totally gave away how old I am, ha! Lol

I can’t remember the release either. But I’m sure the first time I saw it was years after it’s release as we first watched it on TV.

  4. Yay, another book to add to my list of 80s movies to watch!! I just went to google more about this movie and it sounds HILARIOUS! The idea of a mannequin coming to life is so funny x) (That, and I’m very intrigued by the guy with the motorcycle LOL.) And it took me a while to recognize her name, but isn’t Kim Catrell from Sex and the City? My mom loves that show!! I’m going to ask her if she’s seen this movie too 😉

Thanks for sharing this, Jade! It sounds like the kind of smile-inducing film that I would love to watch! <3

It’s such a cute and fun movie. Maybe you’ll run across it on tv sometime soon. YES Kim Catrell was Samantha on Sex and the City. Mannequin is the only other thing I’ve seen her in.

  5. Kim Catrell and Andrew McCarthy! OMG, I loved this movie. I watched when I was a kid too, and every time I spot it playing on TV I’ll stop everything I’m doing to watch again. LOL

Me too Missie! I also have a copy of the DVD so whenever I get a hankering to watch it I pop it in the DVD player. Brings back fond memories of my childhood.
