My Book Boyfriend (1): Four

My Book Boyfriend is a weekly meme hosted by Missie of The Unread Reader.  It was created to give us all a chance to gush and swoon over those amazing boys we fall for in our books.  If you’d like to participate then click the link and grab the image.

I connected with Four of Divergent by Veronica Roth upon that first meeting in the Dauntless compound.  I swooned every time he entered a room and wished to know more about him.  He’s strong, and quiet, and mysterious and the part of me that still feels like a teenager couldn’t help falling for him.

“Becoming fearless isn’t the point. That’s impossible. It’s learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it, that’s the point”  pg. 239

Four Profile:

  • 18 years old
  • Dauntless Faction Leader
  • At least 6ft tall
  • Spare upper lip with full lower lip
  • Deep-set, dark-blue eyes
  • Lean, yet muscular build
  • Hidden tattoos
  • Long slender fingers
  • Has a quiet strength and subtle kindness
  • Can be ruthless when needed

“I have a theory that selflessness and bravery aren’t all that different.” pg. 336

“He” is the young man attached to the hand I grabbed.  He has a spare upper lip, and a full lower lip.  His eyes are so deep-set that his eyelashes touch the skin under his eyebrows, and they are dark blue, a dreaming, sleeping, waiting color.  pg 59

“I don’t want to say this,” he says, “but I feel like I have to.  It is more important for you to be safe than right, for the time being.  Understand?”
His straight eyebrows are drawn low over his eyes.  My stomach writhes, partly because I know he makes a good point but I don’t want to admit it, and partly because I want to press against the space between us until it disappears.
I nod.
“But please, when you see an opportunity. . .”  He presses his hand to my cheek, cold and strong, and tilts my head up so I have to look at him.  His eyes glint.  They look almost predatory.  “Ruin them.” pg 287

We kiss again, and this time, it feels familiar.  I know exactly how we fit together, his arm around my waist, my hands on his chest, the pressure of his lips on mine.  We have each other memorized. pg 407

“I have something I need to tell you,” he says. I run my fingers along the tendons in his hands and look back at him. “I might be in love with you.” He smiles a little. “I’m waiting until I’m sure to tell you, though.”
“That’s sensible of you,” I say, smiling too. “We should find some paper so you can make a list or a chart or something.”
I feel his laughter against my side, his nose sliding along my jaw, his lips pressing my ear.
“Maybe I’m already sure,” he says, “and I just don’t want to frighten you.”
I laugh a little. “Then you should know better.”
“Fine,” he says. “Then I love you.” pg 486

My Four is being played by Jeremy Sumpter.  He’s not quite an exact match of the guy I’m picturing in my head, but he’s a good enough representative.

  1. Oh think I can see him as Four. Nice post.

  2. Elisa says:

Oh, he was my MBB last weeks too =D and Jeremy Sumpter is my model for first MBB. Anyway, I also LOVE Four very much. He’s smart, brave and strong. Nice pick 😉

  3. Jess says:

I’ve heard so much about Four! I feel like I know him already. I’ve got Divergent on my shelf to read and I can’t wait to get to it. I always had a crush on Jeremy, ever since Peter Pan lol.

    Awesome.

  4. Prangon says:

    Divergent is on my TBR.
I am digging Jeremy Sumpter as Four, and the scene is totally HAWT!

  5. I swoon every time I read those quotes! I want to re-read Divergent now. I love Four! He is so hot, brave, and kind. I can’t wait for Insurgent!

I liked your facebook page and followed you on twitter. It is not letting me follow any more blogs on networked blogs. I think 200 might be my limit which is going to suck when GFC leaves.

    • Jade says:

Another Four lover! Thanks for the follows, I’ve followed you back. I actually want to re read the book too. I really took a liking to Tris and Four.

  6. FOUR! Okay, I’m lame, I haven’t read the book yet, but Four is a popular choice for MBB so, I’m already deeply in love with him. I love the strong, silent type, and I’m sure when I read the book, I’ll have the same reaction to him when he walks into the room.

Thanks for particpating this week, Jade.

    • Jade says:

No problem Missie. I had been wanting to for a while now. So the new year and Four gave me great incentive to finally get this done. And I can’t wait til you read Divergent, I’d love to know what you think.

  7. Yeah Four! I absolutely fell in love with him during Divergent. I can’t wait to read Insurgent and find out more about him. You picked some great quotes!

    • Jade says:

Another for the Four club! He is dreamy isn’t he? And thanks, I tried to get the quotes and scenes that stuck out to me and that I loved reading.

  8. Wow. What a description that quote gives. Wow. He sounds mega steamy. Fab choice.

  9. Lena says:

I like Four too from Divergent…but Jade…the photo of this young man looks like he needs a sammich.

    • Jade says:

LOL…I agree. That’s why I said he’s not exactly what I’m picturing. But he’s described as lean so I had to go with something a little on the skinnier side.

  10. Ohh, Four!! He’d definitely make it as my book boyfriend as well. I absolutely loved him in Divergent and awh, all those quotes… Awesome.

  11. Andra Lynn says:

sigh…I still haven’t gotten to divergent…hopefully I will eventually. Four sounds amazing! I don’t know why I keep putting the book off!

  12. […] Definitely Four from Divergent by Veronica Roth! […]
