****DON’T FORGET TO ENTER HERE TO WIN A $10 STARBUCKS GC!****

Feature & Follow Friday is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee that expands your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. First you leave your name here and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them hi in their comments. You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win.

This week’s feature is Lisa @ Read Breathe Relax. So be sure to visit her and follow!

Q. Let’s step away from besties…What is the worst book that you’ve ever read and actually finished?

I’m going to have to go with The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.  I know this book is touted as a classic but I hated it.  I had to read it for school and was bored to tears with this book.  Honestly I wonder how I’d feel about it if I read it as an adult.  Would I have a new appreciation for it or not?  But I was so traumatized by my first reading (read: bored out of my mind), that I don’t remember what happened, nor do I think I’d ever pick it up again.

The Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and share our love of the written word! Hosted by Crazy-For-Books, this weekly BOOK PARTY is an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books! It will also give blog readers a chance to find other book blogs to read! So, grab the logo, post about the Hop on your blog, and start HOPPING through the list of blogs that are posted in the Linky list!!

You have to find another blogger who is having a giveaway and promote their giveaway for them! If possible, promote a giveaway from a blogger doing the Hop (hey, you are visiting other blogs anyway, right?)

Okay you should really check out the giveaway over at Lena’s Ledge.  Especially if you are a writer and like to write poetry.  You can be entered to win a $50 GC.  Check it out!

Also, check out the giveaway over at Reflections of a BookaholicIt ends tonight, so get the last minute entries in! Check it out!

That’s too bad! This was what sparked my love of reading. My HS teacher had such a passion, but we really dug into it with symbolism and everything. I’m a new follower! Friday Follow

The Sound and the Fury. It was confusing and odd.

  3. Returning the visit and following! Oh, the classics are dreadful when they’re forced on readers. I enjoy the old books much more now that I can just read them when I want to, rather than having to trudge through them for a school assignment. 🙂

  4. Lea says:

Yeah, I definitely wasn’t a fan of The Great Gatsby either– never really understood what was so “great” about it 🙁 I do love other books written about the Roaring 20’s but this wasn’t one of them!

Feel free to check out my FF post for this week at the link below 🙂 Have a great weekend!!

  6. I remember feeling the same way when I read it in school. It’s funny, because now as an adult I appreciate it a lot more. I find myself thinking about it often and now I don’t think it’s that bad of a book.

    Hi Jade,

Surfing through via the Book Blogger Hop. I love the bright, royal purple color of your blog.

I managed to escape reading the Great Gatsby. Seems like it was a great escape.

  8. I hated The Great Gatsby when I had to read it in high school, but when I studied it in college, I thought it was actually interesting. I’m your newest follower!

I despised the Great Gatsby too! I can not describe the torture I went through just to get past the 1st chapter. Imagine my relief when it was finally over! 😀 haha I am a new follower!

  10. Pussreboots says:

Although Fitzgerald is one of my favorite authors, I don’t think The Great Gatsby is the best example of his work. I think it’s taught because it has all of his favorite themes and motifs in a very condensed format. My favorite though is Beautiful and the Damned.

My answer is a little unusual. Come see what it is.

  11. Niecole says:

Oh no, I loved that book. Sorry you didn’t like it.
But we all have our own opinions, and that what makes this so fun!

    Love your blog

    Here’s my HOP
    Have a good weekend.

  15. Rebecca says:

I can’t say I’m a fan of most classics either. I’ve come across… two I like perhaps. One, which I decided to try myself and not via school. Then I’ve tried others that are just horribly boring, IMO.

Personally, I actually had a tougher choice choosing today! Not because I read many bad books, but because I didn’t have many to choose from. (The main option is even a novella.) But I’m glad; just means I don’t spend much time finishing those. 😉

Hope you won’t come across a new bad book this weekend and that it’ll be awesome. Happy Friday!

Hi there, new follower here from the hop! Love your blog! 🙂

I haven’t read a lot that I didn’t like lately too. I now have something to skip from adding to my TBR list. Happy Friday!

I think those kind of books you either love or hate. Great answer.

Thanks for the follow, following back! ^_^

  19. I loved reading the classics in university. I really should take time to read more now. You really need to be in the mood to read a good classic.

  20. Thanks for stopping by my FF post and following! I remember (kind of) reading the Great Gatsby in school, i didn’t hate it, but I don’t think i will read it again…. Anyways, I am following you back, have a great weekend!

  21. I could not think of a book until i came here and read your choice, oh yes, yuk. i might have to go back and list that one too. Wishing you a wonderful weekend. Did you get me message about your award.

  22. Sarah says:

Ahh yes, I remember reading The Great Gatsby in high school. I didn’t like it. But, then again, I didn’t like reading much back then for some crazy reason! lol

    New follower! 🙂

Here’s my follow friday and book blogger hop for this week.

    ♥ Sarah

  23. Hey,

I read The Great Gatsby recently enough. I struggled through the first half but then listened to the second half as an audiobook and really enjoyed it!

  24. Alissa says:

I hated the Great Gatsby, too. It really was not my cup of tea. Felt like a soap opera!

  25. I salute all the brave souls that soldier on to finish a bad book. I could never do that. I never have and I can’t imagine I ever will.

This week’s Follow Friday question is an excellent companion to last week’s Book Blogger Hop question.

Follow me back to my blog and read all about why I hardly ever start a bad book let alone finish one – http://www.howardsherman.net

Read both my Book Blogger Hop post last week and my Follow Friday post this week and you’ll get the bigger picture of how my mind works. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! [grin]

  26. I read Gatsby in high school as well, and kind of liked it then. I read it again the year before last, and didn’t like it quite so much. LOL!

  27. Kristy says:

    Hi!
I’ve never read this classic before and I guess that’s a good thing. From a lot of the people I know they either hated the book or was only okay with it.

I hope you have a great weekend!

    Hi,
I’ve never read this classic since it was never required for my old high school classes. Guess I wasn’t missing out on much from all the talk I’ve heard on it.

    Have a great weekend!

  29. Oh I feel you on that one. I didn’t like The Great Gatsby either. I revisited it as an adult and I still didn’t like it. I don’t hate it but I don’t know why the hype. Like you I found it to be boring but I also thought it was pointless and a bit sad.

  30. Jade,
I bet if you read the Great Gatsby now you would feel very differently. It is an expose on the debauchery of the 1920’s and reading your reviews and kind of getting a feeling for what you like….I think you would not find it so boring now 🙂

  31. I have to admit that I have never read this, and have no intention to. Good for you for being honest, even if some get huffy because it’s a a classic!

    Thanks for stopping by today!

  32. sorry not sure why it added a post from my page that wasn’t FF related. I can’t get it off…..

  33. Brie says:

The only redeeming quality of The Great Gatsby is that is short, but boy does it feel loooong! As you can see I feel the same as you!

  34. Hopping through. I read The Great Gatsby in school. I remember liking it but not adoring it. Maybe I’ll re-read it someday.

  35. Thank you for stopping by and I am returning the follow! actually don’t think reading The Great Gatsby bothered me but the endless discussions on symbolism in the book sure did.

    Have a great weekend!
