It’s that time again and I’m gearing up to participate in the bi-annual Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon! Which is a good thing because being sick so much earlier in the year has caused me to fall behind my goal of 100 books in a year by about 10 books. This, I hope, will help me catch up a little bit. I’ve been on a bit of a roll this past month, so hopefully I’ll be able to catch up.
Also, I think my Mom will participate again so that should make it fun. And this time my nephew should be scarce. I LOVE him to PIECES, but he’s so cute I can’t concentrate on my read-a-thon reading like I want to when he’s around. He’s so SMART ya’ll, and he will only be three come this December! Now I have to figure out WHAT books I’ll be reading!
If you’re interested in participating, you can sign up here! They are also looking for people to be cheerleaders, and possibly host mini-challenges and donate prizes! And be sure to check out Alexis’ great read-a-thon tips!
General Information:
What is Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-thon? (Taken straight from the Dewey site)
For 24 hours, we read books, post to our blogs about our reading, and visit other readers’ blogs. We also participate in mini-challenges throughout the day. It happens twice a year, in April and in October.
It was created by the beloved Dewey (her blog has since been taken down, so the link won’t work). The first one was held in October 2007. Dewey died in late 2008. We’re still saddened by her absence, but the show must go on. The read-a-thon was renamed to honor its founder in 2009.
Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-thon is hosted by Trish and Shesten, with help from volunteers.
Read-a-Thon Date: October 13, 2012
Start Times: Handy Time Zone Chart
Once I sign up, what do I do next?
Keep your eye on this blog. In the days leading up to the read-a-thon, we’ll probably post updates, last minute info, etc. The day of the read-a-thon, there will be a home base post. This is where you’ll find out about mini-challenges, prize winners, etc.

Yay for the readathon! I’m excited but I don’t know where I’ll be so I don’t know the extent of my participation. My mom will be reading along but I’m nto sure about my grandmother. I need to give her a call and let her know it is coming up. I’m trying to think if I can rope any more family members in. I want to keep the “growth” trend going.
I figured you might have to scale your participation back until you get yourself settled again. But at least you’re able to participate. I look forward to your updates! And YAY for Mom!
Okay, so I’m not sure I have energy for this BUT…I love the idea of it. And it’d be a good excuse to drink extra gobs of coffee, so, there’s that as well. ;0)
I can’t wait to see what books you pick and then read your reviews!!!

LOL! I’m a night owl anyway M. And oftentimes find myself up for a significant amount of time. I can usually make the 24 hours, but I do also start a couple hours later than everyone else because I’m up so late.
